Zions Bancorporation
Zions Bancorporation, headquartered at One South Main Street in Salt Lake City, is Utah's largest banking institution. The bank was incorporated in 1873 by Brigham Young as Zion's Savings Bank and Trust Company. It was the first bank chartered in Utah. The LDS Church divested itself of the bank in 1960, and went public in 1966. The company currently trades on the NASDAQ with the symbol ZION.
The company's official web site is ZionsBancorporation.com. They also do business on the site ZionsBank.com. Zions Direct is a product for self directed investments.
Zions Bancorporation has grown through acquisition. It appears that the company is establishing a different brand for each state. Here are some subsidiaries:
- National Bank of Arizona serves the Grand Canyon State.
- Vectra Bank serves Colorado.
- Amergy Bank of Texas serves Texas
- California Bank and Trust serves the Golden State.
- Nevada State Bank serves the Silver State.

Corporate History
This section lists corporate events. The bank was acquired by Keystone Corporation in the 1960s. Roy W Simmons (1916 ~ 2006) was appointed bank commissioner in 1949. Simmons helped for the Bank of Utah in 1952 and became the CEO of Lockhart Corporation.
- 1955: Keystone Insurance was created by Roy W Simmons to acquire the Lockhart Corporation.
- 1960: Keystone went public and was worth $2 million.
- 1960: Simmons and Leland Flint acquired controlling interest in Zions First National Bank.
- 1964: Simmons was appointed president of the bank.
- 1965: Simmons merged Zions into Keystone and renamed Keystone to Zions Utah Bankcorporation.

- 1985: Zions acquired Nevada State Bank which was founded in 1959.
- 1977: Roy Simmons created Simmons Media Group which bought radio stations.

- 1994: Zions acquired National Bank of Arizona.
- 1996: Zions acquired Southern Arizona Bancorp and merged Southern Arizona Bank with National Bank of Arizona.
- 1996: Zions acquired Aspen Bancshares, which operated Pitkin County Bank, Trust, Valley National Bank of Cortez, and Centennial Savings Bank.
- 1997: Zions acquired Kelling, Northcross and Nobriga public finance firm (Oakland, Calif.).
- 1997: Zions acquired Tri-State Bank of Idaho
- 1997: Zions purchased eleven branches from Wells Fargo Bank in Utah, Arizona, Idaho and Nevada.
- Zions acquired Sun State Capital Corp. of Nevada.
- 1997: Zions acquired GB Bancorp based in Californial.
- 1998: Zions acquired Vectra Banking Corp. in Colorado
- 1998: Zions acquired Sky Valley Bank Corp. in Colorado.
- 1998: Zions acquired Tri-State Finance Corp. out of Colorado
- 1998: Zions acquired FP Bancorp Inc. in California.
- 1998: Zions acquired Routt County National Bank Corp. in Colorado.
- 1998: Zions acquired SBT Bankshares Inc. in Colorado.
- 1998: Zions acquired Eagle Holding Co. based in Colorado.
- 1998: Zions acquired Kersey Bancorp Inc. based in Colorado.
- 1998: Zions acquired Commerce Bancorp based in Washington.
- 1998: Zions acquired Sumitomo Bank of California.
- 1998: Zions acquired Mountain Financial Holding Co. based in Colorado.
- 1998: Zions acquired Citizens Banco Inc. based in Colorado.
- Zions combined Sumitomo Bank, Grossmont Bank and First Pacific National Bank to create California Bank and Trust with initials CB&T.
- 1999: Zions made bid for First Security Corporation but lost to Wells Fargo.
- 1999: Zions acquired Pioneer Bancorporation
- 2001: Zions acquired Draper Bancorp
- 2005: Zions acquired Amegy Bank in Texas.
- 2006: Zions acquired Stockmen's Bank of Kingman which had 31 branches and added it to the National Bank of Arizona which had 50 branches.
- 2008: Zions received a $1.4 billion investment from the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
- 2008: Zion's Nevada State Bank assumed the FDIC insured deposits of Silver State Bank.
- Nevada State Bank acquired the banking operations of Great Basin Bank via the FDIC.
- 2009: Nevada State Bank is selected as "Payout Agent" in the resolution of Community Bank of Nevada by FDIC.
- 2009: Zion's CB&T division acquired Alliance Bank and Vineyard Bank of California from the FDIC.
