Conservation Garden Park at Jordan Valley

Conservation Garden Park at Jordan Valley showcases plants for xeriscaped gardens. The gardens are open to the public from May through September.

The site includes a detailed database of plants that thrive in the Salt Lake Region. I am disappointed that the list does not give preference to native plants. The one ongoing problem with xeriscaping is that the plants that thrive in Salt Lake gardens also tend to thrive on Utah public lands. Utah rangeland is suffering a costly epidemic of invasive weeds that are choking out native vegetation.

I applaud the site, but hope that future renditions of the database give preference to native species. There also needs to be more education on invasive species.
