Utah Museum of Fine Arts
Utah Museum of Fine Arts at the University of Utah stands out as one of the most important art collections in the State. UMFA is a must stop on any tour of the cultural offerings of the Salt Lake Valley.
The prize of the museum is a permanent collection which includes art from ancient times to modern. Periods represented by the collection include ancient Greece and Rome, Africa, pre-Colombian art and Native American.
The European Art Collection includes a sampling of masterpieces from ancient to modern times. The Digital Collection provides a sampling of pieces.
When I went to the U, the museum was in the basement of the Arts and Architecture building. In 2001, the museum moved into its new home in the John and Marcia Price building.
The exhibition space of the gallery hosts traveling art exhibits sprinkled with pieces from emerging local arts.
To avoid parking problems at the University, your best bet for visiting the gallery is to take Trax to the South Campus Station. The gallery is between the station and library.
