Overstock.com

Overstock.com is Salt Lake's leading player in the internet market. Overstock built its name through buying manufacturer overruns, overstocked inventory and refurbished items and selling them on the net at deep discounts.

Overstock is not the same thing as a discount store. Such stores sell cheap items at a low price. Overstock's goal is to sell quality items at a low price. This is the place where you will find $50 items for $25. MegaMarts sell $25 item for $25.

The Overstock model makes sense. Manufacturers and stores do not want to sell their overstocked goods through their primary retail channels. Doing so puts pressure on their main retail channels. Selling the excess on the internet through a site branded as an overstock retailer makes a lot of sense as the internet market is more price sensitive than stand alone stores.
