Salt Lake County has some of the richest farm lands in the mountain west. With abundant clean waters from the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountains, drainable soild and a relatively mild climate, Salt Lake county is an ideal location for orchards, vineyards and ranches...which, of course, is why people came and put a large city in this corner of the desert.
There is still a large amount of argriculture in Salt Lake Valley and throughout Utah. The Utah Farm Bureau Federation is a voluntary advocacy group for the farm sector in Utah. The site has information on membership and helpful aritcles on farm safety, programs for young farmers and ranchers, information on water quality and a few other interesting links.
Those interested it getting a taste of Utah's bountiful harvest should consider visiting the Farmer's Market that takes place each Saturday in Pioneer Park.
