Children don't need to be in an institution to learn. When the parents are willing to throw in the work, they are often able to do better of opening their children to learning than the public school system. While home schooling is often associated with fanatical cults that do not want their children exposed to ideas that challenge the power of the cult, most real home schoolers are the exact opposite of stereotype. These parents choose to undertake the challenge of home schooling because they want to provide a higher quality education than is currently provided by the education establishment. I've met many extremely well educated and rounded people who were home schooled. Sadly, I have also met people who failed to get even a third grade level of education from home schooling.
The primary difficulty of home schooling has always been access to educational resources and materials. The internet changes all of that. The world is now at the child's finger tips. This section of Salt Lake Sites lists pages about home schooling and home schooling resources from the Salt Lake Valley. If you have a web resource or blog about your home schooling efforts feel free to add your link.
