Most open directories refuse to list affiliate web sites. Personally, I think they are a fun method of self expression in a market economy. Rather than building a whole store and worrying about inventory and shipping, an affiliate builds a web site about a product then links to a merchant that performs the sale and delivers the product. The store on this directory is an attempt at an affiliate site.

Quite frankly, my hope had been to fund this community web site with affiliate programs. That would save the hassle of trying to sell advertising. Sadly, the rates are too low and there are too many dirty tricks in this market for the affiliate model to work. Still, it's a great way to cut your teeth on internet programming.
